Sunday Rehersal

Firstly when I arrived, after on Thursday telling Ryan and Rowan to get the mic straps and accessories from the hall whilst I set up front of house. On Thursday and Friday I had not checked if this had been completed, consequently this morning I had to go and search for the mic straps and sort out colour copies of the mic plot. Of the buildings that were open none had coloured printers so when I had a free moment I had to go and get the keys from Sam for 6th form, however the colour printer there had an issue so I then had to go to reprographics to print it off.

In this time I also had to watch the stack and change any low running batteries.

When I had coloured mic plots I attached them together with masking tape. Then made one that can be moved around back stage

another that is taped to the table. This is to ensure there is always a mic plot.

I also annotated the mic plot as I am not here every night, I highlighted each song where there was a mic change....

Also how many mics were changed, the total number of mics changed and any complex mic changes are highlighted in pink and have corresponding notes.

Now for the full run I can easily implement mic changes, and as this rehearsal the cast are in costume it is helping me navigate the mic changes with this new added obstacle.I also had to start training Rowan, Ryan and Alanna on the mics. I had to change the batteries so the mics had full power throughout the rehearsal.

The Dress Rehearsal

Firstly I made a sign for the poster pens using black card and grips I found back stage.

During the races in the dress the trophy got knocked over, I found a glue gun and glued it back together.

Whilst I had the glue gun out I also glued Oscar's bricks onto his costume as his shoulders kept dislodging them as they had been glued on without him in the costume, I also reversed the way the bricks were going so that his shoulders wouldn't bash them.

Gina did booth singing that wasn't on the mic plot so I filled in the songs and adjusted the songs where the mic change was needed.

The cast were also saying that they needed running orders so I went and made some and placed them throughout the dressing rooms and backstage.

There weren't any A2 posters so I had to cover the information on the sign, we tried scrubbing it out with pen however this didn't work so we're cutting it up tomorrow, I also finished up the merchandise table ready to be sold.

Front of House Set Up

The new space for front of house was black, hence there was limited light within the space, however using the basic central rig it will allow light to be shed on the space. This was the basic space I started with.

I needed to obtain the more current posters as the frames had the old date in them. So I sent of the order for those as well as the merchandise posters. The signs also needed to be re hung around the tent and the merchandise stand set up again for use on the production Monday.

The merchandise stand

Using cable ties I cut through the poster and hung the posters around the space.

I also had a group of Year 12s helping me set up the space. We had to transport all the front of house equipment from backstage to the front of the tent.

Stacking the boxes to transport them.

All the equipment piled up.

We made piles of the equipment in FOH ready to place.

Then we placed all the centre pieces and tables around the space:

We also nailed the signs onto the bar:

Then we split every type of plastic cup into three to place behind the three sections of the bar.

After that the space was ready:

The only health and safety point during the day was when Alisha and I spotted a screw sticking up on one of the entrances from backstage to the stage, consequently we told Andy and he drilled it back in.

  • Producer- Manages the overall production, decides and helps oversee budget and all decisions, as well as organising rehearsals and the timetable.
  • Musical Director- Conducts and ensures musical decisions (such as cuts to the score) are made and also consults with the director and choreographer on these decisions so they can block their work around this.
  • Assistant MD- Work beneath the md and do photocopying of music, and arrange and run rehearsals and help consult on any cuts. They also talk to the sound team on the required set up for the performance.

Unit 65 Pratical- Performance

For the first performance I operated the static camera. I moved the camera
from side to side and also I used the zoom to create some dynamic
camera shots in and out.

For my range of roles I used a roaming camera, here I was cable feeding to
Alisha.

Here I operated the Chamsys graphics on the playback, this also shows
the preview screen for the vision mixer which I used too.

Our assignment was to do the visuals and recordings for Rowan and Tom's performance.

Unit 66- Cutting and labelling of gels + Rigging of Profiles

Preparing the Gels:

Firstly I prepared the gels for the profiles. I traced around the edge of the frame
then I cut out what I had traced.

I labelled each gel with the colour number and the latern they were
going with.

Then I rigged the profiles in accordance to my rig plan, I hooked the profile
over the bar, then attached the safety cable. Then I just tightened the G clamp,
plugged in the lantern and it was rigged.

Unit 69- Studio Recording

Firstly using an XLR we connected the condenser mic into the computer to record the
audio.

Then we set up the mic stand, this hold for the mic allows the mic to be suspended
and not be held by something with solid hard edges to distort the sound.

As we used a condenser mic we needed to turn the phantom power on.

The clip wouldb't shift to angle the hold down
so instead we had to manipulate the stand.

We added a boom shield, this adds an extra quality of sound as the
the other substances such as spit are kept away.

To ensure we could record into the computer we had to set the input to stereo and
ensure the line 1/2 option was selected.

To select a playback for the recording you right click to add a new audio track
then you select mono as it's one mic.

Then pressing the orange sound button you can test your levels.

Recording the sound.

Pressing the record button plays straight into Cuebase.
