At the start of the lesson I printed off my font samples and mock ups with an area for Mr Hawkins to comment on, and as he was on a course left the sheets on his desk.
The Projection Splat
To design the shape of the projection (so there will be no bleeds onto the bricks), I needed to first measure the flats where the projection will be to get a proportion for my design.

| The brown and white squares on the back flats are where the projections and splat will be. |
The area for the projection needs to be high up as shadows will be created by people on stage if too far down.

| Shadows are created even when people are at the back of the stage. |
Lesson 6:
I first drew a rectangle 204 x 130mm in Illustrator and made small splat shapes around it with the curvature tool.
However once I built up more individual shapes around the square it didn't look like a splat, it just looked like a doodle. However I did print it off and left it for Mr Hawkins to compare to the larger splat.
Then I started to create a larger splat, with less individual pieces. It consisted of 2 shapes just flipped and resized. This larger splat looks more realistic and will be easier to paint.
